What Is Endoscopy?
Endoscopy is one of many procedures we offer at Taconic Veterinary Center to help diagnose your pet’s condition and provide treatment that is more effective and appropriate your pet’s needs. We use this procedure to diagnose health issues related to your pet’s upper or lower GI tract, or respiratory system.
This minimally invasive procedure requires your pet to be placed under general anesthesia and uses an endoscope, which is a long, flexible tool with a camera on its tip. This tool allows your veterinarian to analyze the internal structures of your pet and potentially identify the cause of their condition.
What Is Rhinoscopy?
Rhinoscopy is another procedure that uses an endoscope, but specifically to diagnose issues having to do with your pet’s nasal passages. Your pet will be placed under general anesthesia before a rhinoscope is carefully inserted into their nasal passage. This procedure is used to address issues such as:
- Foreign objects
- Persistent nasal discharge
- Uncontrolled sneezing
- Checking for nasal tumors
- Nasal bleeding
After the procedure, patients commonly experience bleeding from the nose, but rest assured, this is normal and will stop after a few days.
